A reasonably good product, but high in grains July 22, 2010 R. P. Taylor (Portland, Oregon USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I fed this to my dogs for about 4 years. At the time I believed this to be the best food on the market. I didn't however know that it was so high in grains. The first ingredient is chicken, but it is weighed prior to being cooked. After processing, it only maintains 20-25% of its original weight. Were it to be weighed after dehydration, it would be much further down the ingredient hierarchy. My vet told me my dog's dry skin and lack of fur sheen was likely due to the high grain content of his food and insufficent Omega-3's in his diet. After calling C&P I was suprised to learn that the Omega-3 levels are only 0.28%, which is significantly lower than many other premium foods. I have since switched to Orijen brand 6-Fish dog food. The Omega-3's are 4 times higher and the Glucosamine/Chondroitin levels approximately 10 times higher. All the fish are wild-caught in Canadian waters, never frozen, delivered daily, and are from species that retain little or no Mercury or PCB's in their tissue. My dog has since stopped scratching and has developed a vibrant, glossy coat. He is also much more energetic, which really alarmed me at first. I don't believe C&P to be a bad food, but I believe that there are much better foods out there. Dog Food Analysis, a non-bias food review site, only rates the C&P(Ultramix and Organix) at 4 out of 6 stars. The only food brands to earn their 6 star rating were Orijen, Evo, Instinct, and Taste of the Wild. I made my final decision by comparing the ingredients. If price is not a concern for you, then I'd encourage you to try the Orijen.
My Vizsla loves it June 27, 2010 Christopher A. Mcfadden (Montgomery, AL) now ive never seen my dog like drool for this but after 3 different foods she settled for this one. I now feed her half of this and half of the ultra mix by castor and pullox to help me out with the price. This is probally the cheapest you will find this food, ive looked high and low and its a pricey bag. wish they came out with a 40 pound bag, but fantastic ingredients, i mean it has flax! 5/5 for sure
Good stuff! June 12, 2010 Deborah Corkindale (East Hartford, CT) This smells great, is organic, the dogs (5 Bichons) love it, it does not cause any stomach problems (as other dry dog food we have tried does), Amazon delivers it for free ... so you just can't go wrong with it. Which reminds me ... time to reorder.
Best Dog Food May 25, 2010 leahbr8 (Boston, MA) When we adopted our dog last year, we started her on Wellness b/c I knew I wanted to feed her premium dog food and it had a good reputation. Well her stool was always loose while she was on it and we eventually had to add metamucil to her diet to make it more firm. Finally I decided to switch her food to Organix and couldn't be happier. It has a higher fiber content than many other dog foods and many of the ingredients are organic. Cameron loves the food and her stool is nice and firm. And she poops less often too. As one other reviewer said, because the ingredients are so nutritious, you'll end up feeding your dog less of this brand than other dog foods that are made of filler. Couldn't be happier now that the food's part of the auto-ship program.
GREAT VALUE and DOG LOVES May 7, 2010 Benjamin Cone (Arizona, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Organix canine formula has been a great success for my miniature poodle, from the standpoints of health and enjoyment. (Dog has significant allergy and other problems) . The delivery is in a matter of literally a few days and the price is over 20% less than at a local discount pet supply store.
